H: Han Solo & Chewbacca /
H: Han Solo & Chewbacca
Han Solo and Chewbacca are the best of partners in Star Wars. They travelled the vast universe in their spaceship called “Millennium Falcon” braving dangerous missions together. These partners are the mirror image of the outlaw characters, Lin Chong and Lu Zhishen, in the Water Margin (one of the four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature): One is brave and clever while the other is super strong. These mismatch pairs are designed to enhance the individual complexities in the character”s own stories.
Unlike in the movies, reality is far more eventful and terrifying. When Apostle Paul and Barnabas went on their first mission trip to Lystra (Acts 14), they not only preached the gospel but also performed a miracle – telling a lame person to stand up. The crowd thought they were gods in a human form and even called them Zeus and Hermes. According to Greek mythology, Zeus and Hermes visited Lystra disguised as farmers. However, no one in the region except for an elderly couple would welcome them into their home. In the end, all of Lystra was destroyed sparing the life of the elderly couple.
The moral behind this myth is to teach people about love and helping others. However, the destruction of Lystra was just a mere folklore. Using this story as an example and grasping this opportunity, Paul taught the crowd a lesson about leaving false mythology behind and receiving the true gospel: Jesus was the true living God who had descended onto earth and Jesus came to save, not to destroy. “For those who believe in Him, they will not perish but will have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
“The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come so they may have life, and have it to the fullest.” (John 10:10)
